On May 23rd, Covered California announced the names of the 3 health insurance plans that will offer individual coverage in 2014 through the Exchange. The plans reflect a mix of large non-profit and commercial plans.

The actual change in an individual’s premium will depend on the person’s current insurance coverage. All plans offer guaranteed issue (you cannot be denied for pre-existing condition), maximum out-of-pocket cost limits of $6,350 and benefits include doctor visits, prescriptions, hospital stays, plus other essential benefits.

In 2014, Californians will have access to the following options for individual plans:

  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • Blue Shield of California
  • Alameda Alliance for Health
  • Chinese Community Health Plan
  • Contra Costa Health Services
  • Health Net
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • LA Care Health Plan
  • Molina Health Plan
  • Sharp Health Plan
  • Valley Health Plan
  • Ventura County Health Care Plan
  • Western Health Advantage

The current list of insurers is for individual policies only. Covered California will announce its options for small businesses to buy health insurance in June.
